About Our Founder & CEO
Brandon Starkes, Founder of The People’s Market, is a native of Prince George’s County, Maryland. He grew up in Bowie. He currently resides in Silver Spring, Maryland with his wife, Chaka, and son, Malcolm.

Brandon seeks to create more opportunities for Black farmers and other historically underrepresented groups, to grow their business and recirculate dollars back into local communities.

Brandon started his career in public service, serving in DC and Prince George’s County Government. In both roles in DC and Prince George's County, Brandon quickly learned that having access to resources wasn't solely based on income, but that race and zip code also played an essential role in whether residents had access to fresh, organic and all-natural food in their neighborhood.

As an entrepreneur, Brandon’s mission is to help small farmers grow their business and feed local consumers healthier and tastier produce and food products that don’t contain GMO’s, pesticides or fertilizers. His overarching goal is to help communities become less reliant on traditional grocery stores and more supportive of local agriculture.
